About Us

Who is Apollo Youth Club?

The Apollo Youth Club is a voluntary organization and a registered charity, set up in February 1971 by a group of young black people living, studying and working in Reading. It plays a key role in providing support for young people in Reading and surrounding areas and its activities are open to the whole community.

How Does Apollo Youth Club Work?

Apollo works on behalf of young people and its members, we promote the rights of those young people and members, focusing on social matters such as Education, Sport, Arts and Culture and other leisure-time activities. We work in partnership with other organisations and statutory bodies, ensuring that our youth programmes work in partnership and makes a telling contribution to the local and national agendas and Youth Matters policy developments.

What is the Aim of Apollo Youth Club?

Promote diversity in its pragmatic sense, acknowledging that young people are all individuals with individual needs, but recognising the national frameworks and local priorities, for each of them to be: Healthy - healthy lifestyles are promoted to all young people; Staying Safe - anti-bullying and anti-social behaviour diversionary programmes have been delivered; Enjoying and Achieving  programmes have been provided in the Youth club and throughout the local community; Making a Positive Contribution young people are engaged in decision making processes and contribute to the appointment procedures for youth workers in the Youth club; Economic Well Being  Programmes are being considered to provide opportunities for young people not in education.

What Do Apollo Youth Club Provide?

Apollo currently provides a range of support services to the young people and its members in the Reading and surrounding neighbourhood that includes: Leisure-time activities for young people; After-school clubSaturday school for young people; Holiday ClubConsultancy- one to one advice/support to individuals and groups; Reference material- library of information and good practise.

How is Apollo Youth Club Managed?

Apollo has a Board of Directors/Trustees, who manages the organisation. Representation on the Board comes from people with key skills to enable the organisation to meet its obligations within the voluntary youth sector (click here to view Trustees). The Board meets at least 11 times per year and in addition an Annual General Meeting is held in July.
